Barefoot College Solar Mamas

Barefoot College in Tilonia, Rajasthan trains rural women — many with little or no formal education — as solar engineers through six months of hands-on residential training. These 'Solar Mamas' return home to assemble, install, and maintain solar lighting in off-grid villages. The college reports 1,708 women trained from 96 countries, bringing electricity to more than 75,000 households.
