Breathe Mongolia: Fighting Ulaanbaatar's Winter Smog

Founded by a group of Mongolians whose family members fell ill from air pollution, Breathe Mongolia - Clean Air Coalition builds bilingual air quality monitoring tools and educational platforms to help residents of Ulaanbaatar understand and respond to winter smog caused largely by coal-burning in the city's ger districts. The organization has grown from a group of volunteers into a staffed nonprofit with over 100 changemakers across 15 countries, publishing research on indoor and outdoor air pollution in ger households and running household-level prevention programs. Its most recent program focused on preventing carbon monoxide poisoning from coal heating.
