Founded in 1990 by biologist Laurie Marker, the Cheetah Conservation Fund is headquartered at a research and education center outside Otjiwarongo, Namibia, home to the largest remaining wild cheetah population on Earth. Because roughly 90% of Namibia's cheetahs live on commercial farmland outside protected reserves, CCF works directly with livestock farmers to reduce human-wildlife conflict, notably through its Anatolian and Kangal livestock guarding dog breeding program. CCF has placed 798 guarding dogs with farmers since 1994, with the large majority of recipients reporting sharply reduced livestock losses and no longer needing to kill cheetahs to protect their herds.
