Founded in London in 2008 by James Thornton, ClientEarth uses strategic litigation to hold governments and companies accountable for climate change, nature loss, and pollution. Its lawyers helped block Poland's Północ and Ostrołęka C coal plants, cancel permits for coal plants in Greece, and accelerate the wind-down of Bełchatów, Europe's biggest coal plant. It now operates from offices across Europe and Asia including London, Brussels, Warsaw, Berlin, Beijing, Madrid, and Tokyo.
