WindAid Institute, founded in 2006 and based in Trujillo, Peru, is a nonprofit engineering school that teaches international volunteers and Peruvian technicians to design, build, and install small-scale (500W-2.5kW) wind turbines for communities with no grid access. Each community forms a local committee that owns and maintains its turbine, funded by small monthly fees. In 2013, WindAid and the community of Catac installed the world's highest-altitude wind turbine, at 4,877 meters, certified by Guinness World Records in 2015.
