Haribon Foundation: Rainforestation Across the Philippines' Key Biodiversity Areas
by Haribon Foundation ยท HQ ๐ต๐ญ Philippines
Haribon Foundation, established in 1972, is the Philippines' oldest environmental NGO and a pioneer of "Rainforestation", restoring degraded land using native, often fruit-bearing tree species rather than commercial monocultures. Its Forests for Life Movement, launched in 2006, mobilizes local governments, farmers, and volunteers to replant critical watersheds and Key Biodiversity Areas nationwide. As of late 2025, the movement had planted more than 1 million native trees across 10 Key Biodiversity Areas, restoring 738 hectares of forest with the help of 30 municipalities and nearly 19,000 volunteers. Haribon also runs public advocacy campaigns linking forest loss directly to flood risk in Philippine cities and watersheds.
