Instituto Terra

Founded in 1998 by photographer Sebastião Salgado and Lélia Wanick Salgado, Instituto Terra restores Atlantic Forest on a formerly degraded farm in Aimorés, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Over more than 25 years the project has replanted native forest, revived springs, and brought back wildlife. As of 2025 it had planted over 3 million native trees across roughly 709 hectares of restored forest.
