Justdiggit: Regreening Degraded Drylands in Tanzania

Founded in the Netherlands, Justdiggit works with farming and pastoralist communities in Tanzania, Kenya and Senegal to restore degraded drylands using low-cost techniques like rainwater-harvesting bunds and Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration. Its longest-running program, in Tanzania's Dodoma region, began regenerating trees from living stumps around 2016-2017. Across its programs, Justdiggit reports more than 525,000 hectares of land under restoration, over 32 million trees recovered, and 10.5 billion liters of water retained in 2025.
