Northern Rangelands Trust: Community Conservancies Across Kenya's Rangelands

Founded in 2004, Northern Rangelands Trust supports member community conservancies — local institutions run for and by indigenous pastoralist communities — to secure land tenure, reduce conflict, and manage rangelands and wildlife across northern and coastal Kenya and parts of Uganda. Per its 2025 annual report, NRT now brings together 47 community conservancies spanning 6.37 million hectares of rangeland.
