Polish Smog Alert: A National Coalition Against Coal Smoke

Polish Smog Alert began in Kraków in 2012, when a small group of residents used social media to highlight the health toll of coal and wood smoke, helping to win a local ban on solid-fuel home heating. The campaign merged with similar local alarms in 2015 to form a national movement, and now brings together more than 50 grassroots organisations across Poland's cities and towns pushing for clean air laws and enforcement. It was a finalist for the 2023 Earthshot Prize for its impact on air pollution.
