Reef Check Malaysia — Citizen Science for Coral Reefs

Reef Check Malaysia has monitored the health of the country's coral reefs for over 15 years, running annual volunteer 'EcoDiver' surveys at more than 300 sites. It supports community-led reef rehabilitation with reef stars and coral nurseries, and trains islanders to become marine conservation leaders. Its long-term dataset tracks threats like the 2024-25 bleaching event, which cut average live coral cover from about 45% to 40%.
