Sagarmatha Next is a sustainability center at 3,780 meters above Namche Bazaar, built with the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee to tackle the waste crisis in Nepal's Everest region, where tens of thousands of annual trekkers generate hundreds of tonnes of rubbish. Its flagship 'Carry Me Back' program asks every trekker to carry a sealed one-kilogram bag of processed waste down to Lukla for recycling. The center also transforms mountain waste into artworks that confront visitors with the pollution problem.
