Founded by Gary Bencheghib and his siblings in 2020, Sungai Watch designs, installs, and maintains floating trash barriers across Indonesian rivers, pairing them with daily manual cleanups of heavily polluted hotspots. The team has installed over 300 river barriers and removed more than 3.75 million kilograms of plastic waste from rivers, sorting the collected material for recycling and research. Its work earned recognition from the UN's Equator Initiative in 2024.
