SupaMoto: Trading Charcoal for Clean Pellet Stoves in Zambia
by Emerging Cooking Solutions Β· HQ πΈπͺ Sweden
Emerging Cooking Solutions, a Swedish-founded company operating under the brand SupaMoto, sells fuel-efficient, internet-connected cookstoves paired with biomass pellets made from sawmill and forestry waste to households across Zambia and Malawi. Its pay-as-you-cook model lets low-income families rent a smart stove and buy pellets instead of charcoal, cutting cooking costs, indoor smoke and pressure on Zambia's fast-shrinking miombo woodlands. A 2025 investment round is financing 14,800 additional cookstoves, expected to bring cost and time savings to roughly 74,000 people. SupaMoto has also become the first cooking company in Zambia to partner with the government on a carbon credit programme under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
