Along Sindh province's Indus River Delta on Pakistan's southern coast, WWF-Pakistan works with fishing communities to nurse mangrove seedlings, replant degraded coastline, and manage sustainable crab and fish harvesting in the forests they help restore. Local women run mangrove nurseries and plant seedlings that protect villages from storm surge while nearly 500,000 people depend directly on the ecosystem's fisheries and forest products. Government agencies, NGOs and companies have jointly rehabilitated thousands of hectares of the delta's mangroves over the past decade, reversing a long trend of coastal forest loss.
